FARLEY, MASSILLON - Came to Texas in 1835. He is shown on page 43 of the army rolls in the General Land Office as a member of Captain Joseph B. Chance’s Washington Company who was detailed to guard the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836. For this service he was on February 13, 1839 issued Donation Certificate No. 812 for 640 acres of land. He was elected by Congress December 16, 1836 as the first Chief Justice of Milam County. He was assistant Secretary to the Senate of the First Congress of the Republic. He was a member of the law firm of Farley and Jewett at Austin in 1843-44. His partner was Henry J. Jewett.

Judge Farley died in 1882. The State of Texas had a monument erected at his grave near Cameron, Milam County, in 1936.
