DOUGLASS, JONATHAN - Eldest son of the five sons of Samuel C. and Phoebe Douglass. The other sons were William, George Washington, Nathan and Freeman W. Douglass. Jonathan was born in Georgia, January 7, 1799 and came to Texas sometime between May 2, 1835 and March 2, 1836. On page 227 of the army rolls in the General Land Office he is shown as one of the men of Captain Peyton R. Splane’s company who were detailed to guard the baggage opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836. For this service he was on May 12, 1846 issued Donation Certificate No. 19 for 640 acres of land. On September 7, 1838 he received Bounty Certificate No. 4226 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 5 to June 5, 1836.

Mr. Douglass died December 19, 1857. His widow, Mrs. Nancy Douglass, was born July 23, 1793 and died February 9, 1860. The two are buried in marked graves in Riverside cemetery, Seguin.
