COLLARD, JONATHAN – Mr. Jonathan Collard of Montgomery county, near Danville, was born in Missouri, came to Texas in 1834. He is the oldest son of Col. Elijah Collard, who was a member of the “Consultation or Provisional Government” that convened at “San Felipe de Austin”, in 1835. Mr. C. Served in both campaigns of 1835 – that prior, and that subsequent to the battle of San Jacinto – and was present in the latter engagement. Mr. C., I believe participated in other campaigns. He is about 60 years old. Texas almanac 1872 COLLARD, JONATHAN S. – Listed on page 44 of the army rolls in the General Land Office as a member of Captain William Ware’s Company and following his name is the notation: “Remained at camp without being detailed. A foot note adds: “See affidavit of Capt. Ware, Donation Voucher 395.” Mr. Collard’s Donation Certificate No. 395 is in Houston County Bounty File No. 156, but there is not now, if ever, an affidavit by Captain Ware in the file. COLLARD, JONATHAN S. – Born near Troy in Lincoln County, Missouri, in 1807. He was a brother of James Hillness, Job Starks, and Lemuel S. Collard, all of whom served in the army of the Republic of Texas. The Collards came to Texas in 1835 and settled in what is now Montgomery. In Service Record No. 7408, signed by the Paymaster of the army, May 3, 1838, it is certified that Mr. Collard served in the army from March 12 to May 12, 1836 in Captain William Ware’s company, and from August 18 to September 18, 1836 in Captain John Wade’s company. On May 29, 1838 he was issued Donation Certificate No. 257 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the Storming and Capture of Bexar, December 5 to 10, 1835. He was detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836 and thus prevented from participating in the battle of San Jacinto. On May 12, 1842 Mr. Collard was married to Nancy Redding, daughter of John Redding. Mr. Collard died in Willis, Montgomery County, January 4, 1896 and is buried in a marked grave in the Danville Cemetery. He was a member of the Texas Veterans Association. After the death of his wife, Mr. Collard was married, in 1866, to Margaret Cochran. Two children of this union were born, Dr. John R.
