COCKRELL, JOHN R. - Came to Texas in the fall of 1835, as is shown in Headright Certificate No. 82 issued to him February 4, 1838 for one third of a league of land, by Milam County Board. The land was surveyed in Milam County in 1850.

Mr. Cockrell’s name appears on page 42 of the army rolls in the General Land Office as one of Captain Joseph B. Chance’s Washington Company, who was left at camp. He was issued Donation Certificate No. 216 for 640 acres of land, August 16, 1850 for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto. The land was surveyed in Williamson County.
Mr. Cockrell enlisted October 31, 1836 in Captain Thomas H. Barron’s Company.
