Mr. Castleman is shown on the original roll of Captain William W. Hill’s Company as having been born in Franklin, Williamson County, Tennessee in 1815. He was described as being five feet, four inches in height; dark complexion, black eyes and dark hair. He was recruited at the home of Asa Mitchell by Captain Lynch.
Mr. Castleman’s name is shown on the army rolls in the General Land Office as having participated in the battle of San Jacinto as a member of Captain William W. Hill’s Company. This was a mistake. Mr. Castleman was sick. He was issued Donation Certificate No. 560 for 640 acres of land, September 28, 1838 for having been detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836. On May 9, 1838 he received Bounty Certificate No. 3276 for 320 acres of land for his services in the army from March 1 to June 1, 1836.
Mr. Castleman was living in Fayette County October 4, 1851 when he sold his donation certificate to J. H. Colett for $64.00.
Mr. Castleman died in 1870. His widow Mrs. Sophrania Castleman was appointed administratrix of his estate November 28, 1870.
