BURDITT, WILLIAM BUCK - The compiler is responsible for Mr. Burditt’s name being omitted from the bronze plaque in the San Jacinto memorial monument on which are inscribed the names of the Texans who were detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg April 21, 1836. The name should be added to the list.

Mr. Burditt was born in Tennessee, a son of Jesse and Mildred (Crain) Burditt. He came to Texas in 1834. On April 28, 1835 he received title to one league of land in Vehlein’s colony, situated in the present county.
Mr. Burditt’s name is not listed on the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836 or on the San Jacinto rolls in the General Land Office. He was issued Donation Certificate No. 463 for 640 acres of land November 19, 1840 for having been detailed by Captain William Kimbro to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836. He received Bounty Certificate No. 2018 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 15 to June 15, 1836.
Mr. Burditt was married to Caroline Whitaker who died February 14, 1892. Mr. Burditt died August 1, 1894. The two are buried in marked graves in the cemetery at Leakey Real County. On the tombstone at Mr. Burditt’s grave it is inscribed that he participated in the battle of San Jacinto.
Children of Mr. and Mrs. Burditt were John W., who married Mary Ford; William, who married Mary Clark; Jesse, who was married three times: Ann, who married B. Dalton; Buck; Martha, who married Christian Kirchner; Belle, who married James Miller; and Anne Burditt.
Mr. J. J. Burditt, Leakey, Texas is a son of John W. and Mary (Ford) Burditt.
Mrs. W. M. Dodson, Woodsboro, Texas is a great-grandaughter of William Buck Burditt.
