BRACEY, MCLIN - Born in 1797. In the headright certificate for one labor of land issued to him in 1838 by the Board of Land Commissioners for Austin County it is stated that he arrived in Texas before May 2, 1835. He came to Texas in 1832 from Mississippi and settled in a bend of the Brazos now known as Raccoon Bend in Waller County. On January 7, 1833 he received title to a league of land in Austin’s Fourth colony situated in Waller county.

On June 28, 1838 Mr. Bracey was issued Donation Certificate No. 380 for 640 acres of land June 28, 1838 for having participated in the Storming and Capture of Bexar, December 5 to 10, 1835. On page 42 of the army rolls in the General Land Office his is shown as member of Company E, Captain Gibson Kuykendall, and as having been detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836.
Mr. Bracey was married to Permelia (or Julia) Foster, daughter of James and Pamelia (Waller) Foster, who resided in what is now Waller county. Mr. Bracey died in 1856 and is buried in what is known as the old Stone Cemetery in Raccoon Bend.
Thomas Bracey was a son of McLin Bracey and Claude Bracey of Bellville, Texas, is a son of Thomas Bracey. Children of Mr. And Mrs. Claude Bracey (in 1940) are Claude, Jr; Helen, a student at the University of Texas; Grace, a teacher at Frydek and Buford Bracey of Anahuac.
On November 12, 1939 Mrs. I.B. McFarland, 25 Courtland Place, Houston, wrote to the compiler that two surviving descendants of Mr. McLin were Mrs. W. R. Walker and Mrs. E. H. La Rose, but she did not furnish their addresses.
