ZUMWALT, ANDREW -- Name not shown on the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836. He was barn in Missouri, September 1, 1817, a son of Adam and Jane S. Zumwalt who arrived in Texas with six of their children in 1829 and settled in De Witt's colony in what is now Gonzales County. In Headright Certificate No. 16 for a league and labor of land issued in 1838 to Andrew Zumwalt by the Board of Land Commissioners for Gonzales County it is stated that he came to Texas in 1831.

Mr. Zumwalt was issued Bounty Certificate No. 1578 for 320 acres of land, January 11, 1838 for having served in the army from February 25 to May 25, 1836. He was a member of Captain William J. E. Heard's Company of Citizen Soldiers at San Jacinto and on June 24, 1839 received Donation Certificate No. 916 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle.
Mr. Zumwalt was a member of the Texas Veterans Association. He died November 1, 1886 and is buried in the Denton Creek Cemetery, Gonzales County, about a mile south of the State Highway between Gonzales and Waelder and about six miles from Gonzales. The State of Texas erected a monument at his grave in 1936.
Mr. Zumwalt was married to Harriet Ann Larimore, December 2, 1837 in Colorado County. Mrs. Zumwalt died March 4, 1874. Children of this union were: Margaret Ann, James A., Joseph, Mary, William and Julia A. Zumwalt.
Mr. Zumwalt was next married to Mrs. Elizabeth Honn. Children of this union were Thomas and Susan Zumwalt.
