WILMOUTH, LOUIS -- Born in Hardin County, Kentucky In 1806, and came to Texas in 1835. He was a member of Captain William Kimbro's San Augustine Company at San Jacinto but the records of the General Land office do not disclose that he applied for the 640 acres of land due him for having participated in the battle. Bounty Certificate No. 51 for 320 acres of land was issued in his name, but assigned to John Bird, November 4, 1836, for having served in the army from March 15 to June 15, 1836. He came to Texas at sometime between May 2, 1835 and March 2, 1836. In Headright Certificate No. 497 for one third of a league of land issued to him May l, 1838 by the Board of Land Commissioners for San Augustine County it is stated that he came to Texas before the Declaration of Independence. Had he arrived before May 2, 1835, this would have been stated in the certificate.

Mr. Wilmouth probably returned to Kentucky shortly after the Battle of San Jacinto. This may be why he did not claim his San Jacinto land. Bounty and Headright Certificates could be sold or assigned. But the Donation Certificate for 640 acres given "unappropriated land of the public domain" was not transferable. It cannot now be secured by the descendants of Mr. Wilmouth for the reason that there is now no unappropriated land. Many veterans of San Jacinto claimed all the land due them except their San Jacinto land which they could not sell. Not expecting to live in Texas, they did not go to the trouble of getting their Donation Certificates.
Mr. Wilmouth was a single man while in the Texas army, as is indicated by the amount of land in his Headright Grant. Had he been married he would have received a league and labor of land.
Returning to Kentucky, Mr. Wilmouth was married to Ellen Vittitoe. They continued to reside in Kentucky until the year 1885 when they moved to Texas to live with a daughter, Melvina, who had married Greenberry Richardson and moved to Grayson County, Texas, with her husband. Mr. Wilmouth died November 11, 1893 and Mrs. Wilmouth died January 22, 1896. Both are buried in the Harshbarger Cemetery near Sadler, Grayson County. The State of Texas erected a monument at their graves in 1936.
Children of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmouth were (1) Lou, who married Steve Richardson, a cousin of Greenberry Richardson, (2) Malvine, who married a Mr. Richardson (3) Marcelle, who married a Mr. Suttelle and died in Kentucky, (4) Jane, (5) George, (6) James, (7) William, (8) John and (9) Melvina Wilmouth.
(9) Melvina Wilmouth was married to Greenberry Richardson. Their children were (a) Laura Allen, (b) Hiram, (c) Jeannette, (d) Henry Samp, (e) Ella, (f) Idd and (g) Gus Richardson. (a) Laura Ellen Richardson was married to Daniel Roberts and lived in Sherman, Texas. (b) Hiram G. Richardson was single and lived at Gordonville. (c) Jeannette Richardson married J.H. Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Smith lived in Mount Dora, New Mexico. (d) Henry Samp Richardson married Laura F. Shires and lived in Gordonville, Texas. (e) Ella Richardson married Tom Evans and lived in Nocona, Texas. (f) Idd Richardson married Pauline Norman, and lived in San Angelo, Texas. (g) Gus Richardson married Nora Brooks and lived in Sherman, Texas.
