WILLIAMSON JOHN W.--On page 3 of Book A, containing the list of applicants for land in Austin's Colonies it is shown in Mr. Williamson's application of January 7, 1826 that he stated that he was born in Mississippi in 1798 and had arrived in Texas in 1826 with his son. He also stated that he was a widower. He did not secure the land and it appears that he left Texas and did not return again until 1829. At least, in Headright Certificate No. 133 issued to him February 1, 1839 for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Washington County it is stated that he came to Texas in 1829. Mr. Williamson was a member of Captain William H. Smith's Company of Cavalry at San Jacinto and on June 27, 1838 he was issued Donation Certificate No. 381 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. In the certificate his name was misspelled Wilkinson. The land was surveyed in what is now Zavala County. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 803 for 320 acres of land December 3, 1838 for having served in the army from March 16 to June 23, 1836. The certificate had been assigned.

From the Deed Records of Washington County it is shown that Mr. Williamson was living in Galveston County April 25, 1843 and that on November 6, 1845 the land belonging to his estate was sold at public auction by the sheriff of Washington County for taxes.
