WHITESIDES, ELIAS S.--The following information concerning Mr. Whitesides is shown on an original roll of Captain William W. Hill's company at muster April 11, 1836. He was born in Wayne County, Kentucky in 1810. He was of light complexion with blue eyes and light hair. He was recruited at Asa Mitchell's home in Washington Municipality, March 2 by Captain Joseph P. Lynch.

In the Headright Certificate issued to Mr. Whitesides by the Washington County Board July 5, 1836, for one third of a league of land it is stated that he came to Texas in 1825. He came with his father William Whitesides and settled near Cole's Settlement, now called Independence, in what is now Washington County.

Mr. Whitesides was issued Bounty Certificate No. 9269 for 320 acres of land, September 3, 1839, for having served in the army from February 13 to May 13, 1836. He was a member of Captain Hill's Company at San Jacinto and on April 3, 1841 was issued Donation Certificate No. 1142 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle.

From the Probate Records of the county it is learned that Mr. Whitesides died in Washington County in 1852. George J. Duncan was appointed administrator of his estate July 3, 1852.
