R. Bowen was on September 3, 1839 issued Bounty Certificate No. 9268 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from February 29 to May 30, 1836. He served in Captain Hill's Ranging Company from July 3, to October 3, 1836, as is shown in Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 800, and for this service R. Bowen received Bounty Certificate No. 3910 for 320 acres of land. He sold the Certificate June 21, 1838 to R. M. Forbes. He did not apply for the land due him for having participated in the Battle of San Jacinto.
In Headright Certificate No. 149 issued to William R. Bowen in 1838 by the Board of Land Commissioners for Montgomery County for one league of land and Headright Certificate No. 182 for one labor of land it is stated that he arrived in Texas March 1, 1835. The compiler believes, but has been unable to prove, that this is the R. Bowen who participated in the Battle of San Jacinto. Captain Hill's Company was raised largely in Washington Municipality of which the present Montgomery County was a part.
