WATSON, DEXTER -- In the Headright Certificate issued to him June 7, 1838 by the San Augustine County Board for one-third of a league of land it stated that he came to Texas in 1835. He was a member of Captain William Kimbro's San Augustine Company at San Jacinto and on November 10, 1838 was issued Donation Certificate No. 604 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. He received Bounty Certificate No. 499 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 15 to June 15, 1836.

The deed records of San Augustine County show Mr. Watson living in that county January 1, 1853 when he sold a slave.

The biographies have been scanned from the original typescripts, a process that sometimes allows for mistakes in the new text. Researchers should verify the accuracy of the texts' contents through other sources before quoting in publications. Additional information on the veteran may be available in the Herzstein Library.
