WATERS, GEORGE -- Born in Alabama. In Headright Certificate No. 92 issued to him February 1, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Washington County Board it is stated that he arrived in Texas in January, 1836. He enlisted in Captain Sidney Sherman's Company in Kentucky and served in Captain William Wood's Company at San Jacinto. On July 26, 1838 he was issued Donation Certificate No. 480 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. On the official San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836 he is shown as having been slightly wounded in the engagement. On a muster roll in the General Land Office he is shown as having enlisted in Captain Nicholas M. Dawson's company November 12, 1836. He received Bounty Certificate No. 9532 for 1280 acres of land for having served in the army from December 18, 1835 to December 18, 1836. In one of the files in the General Land Office containing records of land surveyed for Mr. Waters, there is an affidavit signed in Landerdale County, Alabama, January 5, 1898 by Daniel Waters, brother of George Waters. He stated that George Waters was born in Alabama and had left there in 1835 for Texas. He was at that time single. In about 1848 he moved to Phillips County, Arkansas and there married and died but he did not say when his death occurred. He stated that Mr. Waters was the father of three children, Charles W., Robert S. and Georgia A. Waters. Georgia had married James P. Long and both she and her husband were deceased. Charles W. and Robert E. Waters were living in Phillips County, Arkansas and were the owners of the land formerly belonging to their father, situated in Fort Bend County.
