WALLING, JESSE -- Born in White County, Tennessee, June 17, 1794, oldest son of John and Anna Chism Walling. His mother was a daughter of John Chism. Other children of Mr. and Mrs. John Walling were James, Thomas Jefferson, John, Aldred, Cynthia Ann, Elizabeth, Nancy and Mary Walling, all of whom came to Texas prior to or during the Republic of Texas. The father, John Walling, came in December, 1833 and died March 6, 1841 in what is now Cherokee County.

Jesse Walling arrived in Texas in December, 1834, as is shown in Headright Certificate No. 49 issued to him February 1, 1838 for a league and a labor of land by the Nacogdoches County Board of Land Commissioners. He received Bounty Certificate No. 1206 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 22 to June 22, 1836. He was a member of Captain Hayden Arnold's Company at San Jacinto and on June 26, 1838 was issued Donation Certificate No. 375 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. He was a member of the House of Representatives from Nacogdoches County in the Seventh Congress. (H or R from Rusk Co. 2nd Leg. December 13, 1847 to November 5, 1849.)
Mr. Walling was first married to Sarah Parker. After Mrs. Walling's death Mr. Walling on March 26, 1838 married Ann Wheelock at Nacogdoches. Mr. Walling resides for a number of years at Millville, Rusk County, but eventually moved near Whitney, Hill County, Texas, where he died August 11, 1867. He was buried in the old Walling Bend cemetery in Bosque about six miles southwest of Whitney, Hill County. Mrs. Walling was born November 15, 1815 and died May 18, 1897, She is buried beside her husband.
Children of Jesse and Ann Wheelock Walling were (1) John C., (2) Preston, (3) Marthy, (4) Sarah and (5) Nancy Walling.
The State of Texas will erect a joint monument, costing $100 at the graves of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Walling.
