WALKER, MARTIN -- Born in Alabama in 1817. In Headright Certificate No. 62 issued to him January 20, 1838, for one-third of a league by the Board of Land Commissioners for Bastrop County of land it is stated that he came to Texas in 1835. He was a member of Captain Jesse Billingsley's Company of "Mina (Bastrop) Volunteers" and on May 21, 1838, was issued Donation Certificate No. 120 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. In Service Record No. 5639 it is certified that he was badly wounded in the engagement. He received Bounty Certificate No. 3191 for 640 acres of land for having served in the army from April 1 to October 1, 1836.

Mr. Walker's home was in Bastrop County, but he died March 5, 1889, at the home of his nephew Edmund B. Walker in Caldwell. In his will signed shortly before his death he provided that his estate should go to the children of his deceased brother, William Walker. These were Edmund B., Charles F. and William L. Walker.
Mr. Walker was a member of the Texas Veterans Association.
