VIVEN, JOHN -- Shown in the Headright Certificate issued to Styles J. Fowler, March 12, 1849 as a member of the Board of Land Commissioners of Harris County.

VIVEN, JOHN -- Enlisted in Captain Sidney Sherman's Company in Kentucky, December 18, 1835. In the Headright Certificate issued to April 13, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Harrisburg County it is stated that he arrived in Texas in January, 1836. He was a member of Captain William Wood's Company at San Jacinto and received Donation Certificate No. 111 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. The certificate was lost and a duplicate was issued June 26, 1848. A duplicate Bounty Certificate for 1280 acres of land for having served in the army for a period of a year was issued to his heirs February 27, 1857.
Mr. Viven died in Houston, October 26, 1856 and his son Francis L. Viven was appointed administrator of his estate. (Book L, page 467, Probate Records of Harris County.) He was a merchant at the time of his death.
