THOMPSON, CHARLES P. -- In Headright Certificate No. 140 issued in his name, but delivered to his heirs, for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Matagorda County in 1838 it is stated that Mr. Thompson came to Texas in 1829. He was a member of Captain William J. E. Heard's Company of Citizen Soldiers at San Jacinto and on April 30, 1839 Donation Certificate No. 861 for 640 acres of land was issued in his name, due him for having participated in the battle. His heirs apparently did not apply for the bounty land due him.

Mr. Thompson died in Matagorda County prior to December 28, 1837 when his brother was appointed administrator of his estate. This is shown in the Probate Records of Matagorda County, Book A, page 59.

Mr. Isham Thompson appeared before the Probate Court of Matagorda County April 26, 1841 and made affidavit that he was a brother of Charles P. and Thomas Thompson, both of whom had died in Matagorda County in 1837. Their mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Campbell, was alive and entitled to all the property of her two deceased sons. Thomas left a Negro boy, Champ, and one third of a league of land. Charles P. left a Negro boy, Jim, a Spanish horse, twenty head of cattle and a Headright of one-third of a league of land.

Mr. Isham Thompson was living in Wharton County in 1853.
