SWAIN, WILLIAM L. -- It is not known when Mr. Swain came to Texas. His heirs did not apply for the Headright Certificate due him. He was a member of Captain Henry Teal's company and his heirs received Donation Certificate No. 1082 for 640 acres of land, November 7, 1840, due Mr. Swain for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto. They were issued Bounty Certificate No. 9632 for 1920 acres of land November 7, 1840, for Mr. Swain's services in the army from January 12, 1836 to May 22, 1837, at which time Mr. Swain died. The heirs of all soldiers who died while in the army were entitled to receive 1920 acres of Bounty land in addition to the Donation land due the soldier.

The biographies have been scanned from the original typescripts, a process that sometimes allows for mistakes in the new text.
