STOUFFER, HENRY S. -- Born in Maryland. The Cincinnati Daily Gazette of January 6, 1836 carried an item in which it was stated that at the organization of Captain Sidney Sherman's Company in Kentucky, December 10, 1835 Mr. Stouffer was elected Second Lieutenant. Captain Sherman's Company entered Texas in January, 1836.

Mr. Stouffer fought as a private in Captain Robert J. Calder's Company at San Jacinto. Why he left Captain Sherman's Company is not known. His heirs on May 18, 1846 were issued Donation Certificate No. 16, May 18, 1846 for his services at San Jacinto.
Mr. Stouffer died at Velasco, Brazoria County August 15, 1836 while in the army. His heirs on January 16, 1840 were issued Bounty Certificate No. 9412 for 1920 acres of land for his services in the army from December 18, 1835 to August 15, 1836, and for his having died while in the army.
The Telegraph and Texas Register of Columbia, carried the following notice on August 16, 1836: "Died at Velasco on the 15th inst., Lieut. Stouffer, Texian Army of Baltimore, and one of the heroes of San Jacinto."
Note: Colonel Jesse Benton, Jr. made an affidavit June 21, 1856 that Stowfer was a member of Captain William H. Patton's Company when discharged (Army rolls, page 232)
