STEPHENSON, JOHN -- Came to Texas in 1830 as is shown in the Headright Certificate issued to him for a league and labor of land by the Jefferson County Board.

His name was omitted from the official San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836. Captain William M. Logan, however, in Service Record No. 992, certified that he served in his company from March 6 to June 6, 1836, and participated in the battle of San Jacinto. On March 30, 1839, he was issued Donation Certificate No. 844 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. He was living in Jefferson County October 25, 1848, when he sold the certificate to Henry B. Force for $50.00. He received Bounty Certificate No. 9025 for 320 acres of land March 30, 1839, for his services in the army from March 6 to June 6, 1836. This he sold in Jefferson County March 5, 1847, for $25.00. Mr. Stephenson and his wife, Sally, sold their Headright Certificate to William Armstrong for $20O.00 on November 27, 1846.
Brothers of Mr. Stephenson residing in Jefferson County in 1838 were William, Gilbert and James Stephenson. A relative of his, John Stephenson, died in 1838 leaving a widow, Mrs. Lydia Stephenson, and the following minor children. George, Amanda, Louisa, Elijah, Ezra, Warren and James.
