SMITH, GEORGE -- Came to Texas after May 2, 1835. On February 1, 1838 in a headright certificate issued in the name of Mr. Smith for one-third of a league of land by the Matagorda County Board it is certified that he came to Texas prior to March 2, 1836. Had he arrived prior to May 2, 1835 this would have been so stated in the certificate. The certificate had been assigned to Captain Robert Boyd Irvine.

Mr. Smith was a member of Captain Henry Teal's Company of regulars. On __________ he was issued Bounty Certificate No. __________ for 1280 acres of land for having served in the army from January 18, 1836 to May 29, 1837. The land was surveyed in Tom Green County in 1860. On November 10, 1847 be received Donation Certificate No. 93 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto. He was living in Matagorda County June 26, 1848 when he sold the certificate to Samuel G. Wallace.
