SEVEY, RALPH E. -- The records of the Texas Veterans Association show that Mr. Sevey was born in Maine. He was a brother of Manasseh, Theodore, and Joseph S. Sevey, who served in the Texas Army. Joseph S. Sevey was living in Wiscassett, Maine in 1874. Ralph E. Sevey enlisted in Captain Sidney Sherman's Company in Kentucky December 18, 1835, and arrived in Texas in January, 1836. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 1982 for 1280 acres of land for having served in the army from December 18, 1835, to November 21, 1837. He was a member of Captain William Wood's company at San Jacinto and Donation Certificate No. 691 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle was dated April 4, 1855. President Houston on May 10, 1837, sent Mr. Sevey's name to the senate for confirmation as Second Lieutenant of Regular Infantry, a rank he was holding at that time.

Mr. Sevey was issued a Headright Certificate for one third of a league of land by the Harrisburg County Board in 1838 and in the certificate it is stated that he came to Texas in 1836. This was lost and a duplicate was issued April 4, 1855. He was living in Huron county, Michigan, February 9, 1874 when he sold the certificate to Irving Eggleston for $516.00.

The records of the Veterans Association show Mr. Sevey to be living in Port Austin, Huron county, Michigan, in 1884.
