SCOTT, WILLIAM P. -- In applying for Headright Certificate No. 213 January 26, 1838, to the Brazoria Board, Mr. Scott stated that he had come to Texas in 1830. He received a certificate for a league and labor of land. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 606, November 29, 1837, for 320 acres of land for serving in the army from March 15 to May 5, 1836. He was a member of Captain Peyton R. Spane's Company but served in Captain Robert J. Calder's Company at San Jacinto. Donation Certificate No. 591 for 640 acres of land for participating in the battle was issued November 12, 1838. President Houston on December 16, 1837 appointed Mr. Scott Chief Justice of Brazoria County, as shown in the Secret Journals of the senate, page ________. The marriage records of Brazoria County show that in March 1840 Judge Scott performed the marriage ceremony of George W. Fulton and Harriet G. Smith, daughter of Governor Henry Smith.
