SAYERS, JOHN. -- Born in Kentucky. In applying to Washington County, June 19, 1838, for a Headright Certificate for a third of a league of land, he stated that he came to Texas in February, 1836. He was a member of Captain James Gillaspie's Company and San Jacinto Donation Certificate No. 475 was issued to him, July 25, 1838.

The Deed Records of Washington County, Book C, page 357, show that Mr. Sayers died in that county before August 9, 1839. At that time Joseph B. Chance was administrator of his estate. The heirs of Mr. Sayers were engaged in a law suit in Washington County in November, 1849. Land on Donation Certificate No. 475 was surveyed in Eastland County in June, 1857.
