ROBINSON, WILLIAM -- The compiler is responsible for the name "William Robertson" being put on the bronze plaque in the San Jacinto Memorial Monument on which are inscribed the names of the Texans who participated in the Battle of San Jacinto. He is now convinced (March 28, 1941) that the name should be William Robinson.

The name is listed on Page 31 of the San Jacinto Rolls printed in 1836 as "Wm. Robertson", a member of Captain William M. Logan's Company of "Liberty Volunteers". It also appears as "Wm. Robertson" on Page 37 of the San Jacinto Rolls in the General Land Office. On May 10, 1836, however, the soldier signed his name as "Wm. Robinson" on a statement signed by all of the members of Captain Logan's company in which it was stated that the members of the company had received of Captain Logan two hundred and twenty-three dollars in cash and one hundred and forty-two dollars and twelve cents in goods "it being only part of what was due the said Logan. Company of the spoils taken in the Battle of the 21st ult. at San Jacinto." The original document was in possession of Mr. R. W. Abbott of Orange, Texas in 1936.
In Headright Certificate No. 19, issued to Mr. Robinson February 15, 1838 by the Board of Land Commissioners for Liberty County for one-third of a league of land, it is stated that he came to Texas in 1834. (The certificate is no longer in File No. 107, Liberty, First Class.) The land was surveyed in San. Jacinto County.
Mr. Robinson did not apply for the Bounty and. Donation land due him for his services in the army.
