ROBERTS, DAVID -- Born in Knox County, Tennessee on December 15, 1808, came to Texas in 1835 and settled in what is now Sabine County. In Service Record No. 5927, it is certified that he served in the army from March 29 to April 29, 1836. He was a member of Captain Benjamin F. Bryant's Company at San Jacinto and, on December 26, 1843, he was issued Donation Certificate No. 144 for 640 acres of land-for having participated in the battle.

After the revolution, Mr. Roberts settled near the present town of Palestine in Anderson County, then in Houston County. On August 26, 1839, he was issued a Headright Certificate for one-third of a-league of land by the Houston County Board of Land Commissioners.
In 1843 Mr. Roberts was married to Elizabeth Marshall. In 1870 the family moved to Johnson County and there- Mr. Roberts died on November 4, 1875. He was a member of the Texas Veterans Association. He is buried in the Lus Academy Cemetery six miles east of Cleburne. His grave is marked. Mrs. Roberts was a daughter of William and Sarah Marshall. She was born on November 20, 1835 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and died in Johnson County, Texas. She is buried beside her husband.
Children of Mr. and Mrs. Roberts were: John A. Roberts, who married Mary Beauchamp, Sarah Roberts, who married M. J. Davis, and Nettle Roberts, who married J. W. Carter.
Grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Roberts were Harvey Roberts, Mrs. Beaulah Roberts Delavan, Mrs. Aliah Roberts Powers, Mrs. Nettie Roberts Allen, Mrs. J. S. Newman, Mrs. Lura Davis, Mrs. J. E. Gresham, Lester Carter, Mrs. J. T. Roney, Mrs. Charles E. King, Mrs. P. L. White, and Mrs. Otis Moore.
