BINGHAM MATHIAS A. -- Came to Texas after May 2, 1835, and before March 2, 1835. In Headright Certificate No. 31 issued to him February 1, 1838 by the Harrisburg County Board for one-third of a league of land it is stated that he arrived in Texas before March 2, 1835. Had he arrived before May 2, 1835 this would have been shown in the certificate. On February 23, 1836 he was a witness to a treaty signed by Sam Houston and John Forbes on the part of Texas, and Chiefs Bowles, Big Mush and other chiefs for the Cherokees and associated tribes. (Secret Journals of the Senate, Congress of the Republic, p.39). He was a member of Captain William S. Fisher's Company of Velasco Blues at San Jacinto and on March 20, 1847 he was issued Bounty Certificate No 68 for 640 acres for having participated in the battle. March 23, 1838 he was issued Bounty Certificate No. 2685 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 5 to June 5, 1836. On the same date he received Bounty Certificate No. 2687 for 320 acres of land for his services from March 4, 1837 to March 23, 1838. On page 61, army rolls in the General Land Office he is shown as a member Captain Thomas Stewart's Company of Matagorda Volunteers, July 15, 1836.
