PATTERSON, JAMES S.--Born in 1799. The compiler does not know where he was born or when he came to Texas. In compliance with an Act of the Legislature, approved January 24, 1850, he was issued a Headright Certificate for one-third of a league of land. In the certificate it is not stated when Mr. Patterson came to Texas. Mr. Patterson was a member of Captain William S. Fisher's Company of Velasco Blues at San Jacinto and on August 26, 1850 he was issued Donation Certificate No. 218 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. He was living in Milam County, October 6, 1851 when he sold the certificate to Nathan Halbert for $64.00. He could not write but affixed his mark to the deed of transfer. He received Bounty Certificate No. 723 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army for a period of three months in 1836, time of enlistment and discharge not shown.
