ORR, THOMAS -- Born in 1818, as is shown in a list of the names of all men available for military service in the municipality of Liberty July 20, 1836. In January 1835 the original draft was in possession of R. W. Abbott of Beaumont. In the Headright Certificate issued to him for one-third of a league of land by the Jefferson County Board, February 1, 1838 it is stated that he came to Texas in 1824. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 3921 for 320 acres of land June 23, 1838 for having served in the army from March 6 to June 6, 1835. He was a member of Captain William M. Logan's Company at San Jacinto and received Donation Certificate No. 364 June 25, 1838 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. On a muster roll in the General Land Office he is show as having served in Captain Franklin Hardin's Company from July 7 to October 7, 1836. For this service his heirs received Bounty Certificate No. 1505 for 320 acres of land, February 11, 1854.
Mr. Orr died in Liberty County in 1845. His son, William, and daughter, Martha, on February 1, 1846 sold his Donation Certificate to George W. Miller for $3O0.0O. Martha was at that time the wife of George Loving.
