MURRAY, WILLIAM - The compiler does not know when Mr. Murray came to Texas since he did not apply for a Headright certificate. In Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 615 it is stated that Mr. Murray enlisted in Captain James Smith's Cavalry Company April 11, 1836 and served in Captain Robert J. Calder's Brazoria Company at San Jacinto. On August 2, 1838 he was issued Bounty Certificate No. 4169 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from April 11 to July 12, 1836. He did not apply for the 640 acres of donation land due him for having participated in the battle.

On the back of Bounty Certificate No. 4169 it is transferred March 10, 1855 by Mr. Murray to Hugh Young. Mr. Murray could not sign his name, affixing his mark to the transfer. His address was not shown.

Written by Louis W. Kemp, between 1930 and 1952. Please note that typographical and factual errors have not been corrected from the original sketches. The biographies have been scanned from the original typescripts, a process that sometimes allows for mistakes in the new text. Researchers should verify the accuracy of the texts' contents through other sources before quoting in publications. Additional information on the veteran may be available in the Herzstein Library.
