MORGAN, HUGH -- In the Certificate of Character issued to Mr. Morgan May 19, 1835 by Radford Berry, Alcalde of Nacogdoches it is stated that he was married and had a family and had arrived in Texas in 1835. On August 30, 1835 he received title to a league of land in Vehlein's Colony surveyed in Liberty and Chambers County. He did not apply for a Headright certificate from the Republic.

Mr. Morgan was a member of Captain William S. Fisher's Company of Velasco Blues at San Jacinto and on July 19, 1854 Donation Certificate No. 593 for 640 acres of land was issued to him for having participated in the battle. He served in the army from March 6 to September 13, 1836 and for this Bounty Certificate No. 3152 for 640 acres of land, assigned to John C. Collins, was issued in his name. On page 53 of the army rolls in the General Land Office he is shown as a member of Captain Joseph P. Lynch's Company, August 31, 1836.
