MOORE, WILLIAM P. -- Born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1817. He arrived at Velasco, January 28, 1836 on the schooner Pennsylvania, having been recruited in New Orleans for the army of Texas by Captain Amasa Turner. His name appears on page 27 of the army rolls in the General Land Office as a member of Captain John Hart's Company at Velasco, January 30, 1836. Richard Roman became Captain of the company and commanded it at San Jacinto. Mr. Moore was a member of Captain Roman's Company and his heirs were on June 25, 1838 Issued Donation Certificate No 368, in Mr. Moore's name, for 640 acres of land due him for having "fought bravely at the battle of San Jacinto 21, April, 1836. In the Headright certificate in Mr. Moore's name September 6, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Harrisburg County it is certified that he arrived in Texas in January, 1836, and entered army Jan. 30, 1836.

Captain Nicholas M. Dawson succeeded Captain Roman in command of the company and on one of his muster rolls in the Archives of the State Library the following information concerning Mr. Moore is found. He was enlisted at Velasco, January 29, 1836 by recruiting officer Richard Roman. He enlisted for two years, or the duration of the war. He was twenty-three years old; was 5 feet, 4 inches high; of dark complexion; had grey eyes and dark hair. He was born in New Orleans and was a printer by trade. He had been paid for his services to date, $100.00 and had received the following articles from the commissary: 1 vest, 1 jacket, pair of pants, 1 shift, 2 pairs of shoes and 2 pairs of stockings with a total value of $ 16.69.
In Milam County Bounty No. 1424 at the Land Office the following information concerning Mr. Moore is found. He died in the army in the year 1837, leaving as his heirs his mother, Mrs. Barbary Preston, and the following sisters, all of New Orleans; Harriel L., wife of Thomas D. Hales; Louisa B., wife of John Galpin; Sarah, wife of Joe Mathers; Elizabeth, wife of Theodore Roberts of Louisberg, Louisiana.
