MONTGOMERY, ROBERT W. -- shown in "The Heroes of San Jacinto" as McGready Montgomery. It has not been ascertained when Mr. Montgomery came to Texas. He did not apply for a Headright. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 3570 for 1280 acres of land May 25, 1838 for having served in the army from February 23 to October 10, 1836. He was a member of Captain Henry Teal's Company at San Jacinto and on May 23, 1838 he received Donation Certificate No. 193 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle.

According to the Probate Records of Harris County, Mr. Montgomery died in that county in June, 1837. Captain Peter B. Dexter petitioned to be appointed administrator of his estate. He stated that Mr. Montgomery died at the home of Joseph Denman in Harrisburg County in June, 1837 leaving as his heir a daughter, Emma Jane Montgomery, in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery had been divorced. Emma Montgomery died in June, 1838, leaving as her heir her mother, Mrs. Jane Montgomery. Surviving Mr. Montgomery, also, was his sister, Mary, wife of Willard Church of Indiana.
