MONTGOMERY, ANDREW M. -- Born in Alabama in 1805. In the Spanish Archives in the General Land Office, Austin, it is shown that Andrew M. Montgomery, aged thirty, and his brother, John, came to Texas from Alabama in 1830 and on February 2, 1835 applied for land in one of Austin's colonies, which they did not receive. Andrew received title to one-fourth of a league in Robertson's Colony situated in the present county of Falls, February 2, 1835 and title to three-fourths of a league in the colony July 30, 1835 also situated in Falls County. John received title to one-fourth of a league in Robertson's Colony in Falls County, February 2, 1835 and February 1, 1838 he was issued a Headright Certificate for one-twelfth of a league by the Board of Land Commissioners of Montgomery County. In the Certificate it is wrongfully stated that he came to Texas in 1831, instead of 1830. Andrew did not apply for a Headright Certificate.

Andrew M. and John Montgomery both enlisted in Captain James Gillaspie's Company in 1836 and both were at San Jacinto. On July 11, 1838 Andrew was issued Donation Certificate No. 454 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. On January 25, 1836 he was issued Bounty Certificate No. 2105 for 320 acres of land, surveyed in Grimes County, for having served in the army from March 1 to May 30, 1836.
Mr. Montgomery was elected one of the vice presidents of a convention held at the San Jacinto Battlefield April 21, 1860, at which time General Sam Houston was endorsed for President of the United States as "the peoples candidate." Isaac L. Hill, a San Jacinto Veteran, was president of the convention and among the other vice-presidents elected were the following men who fought under General Houston on the site of the convention grounds twenty-four years previous; Samuel Paschall, Ellis Benson, William S. Taylor, William Dunbar, and David H. Love.
