MONEY, JOHN HAMILTON -- On page 87, Book A of the list of applicants for land in Austin's Colonies it is shown that when Mr. Money applied for land February 12, 1831 he stated that he was 35 years of age. No further information concerning him is given. On March 31, 1831 he received title to one-fourth of a league of land in Austin' s Third Colony situated in the present county of Washington. He did not apply to the Republic of Texas for a Headright Certificate.

Mr. Money was at one time assistant surveyor to Horatio Chriesman. In 1835 he was Alcalde of Austin Municipality. He was elected Comptroller of the Provisional Government of Texas December 30, 1835, and Marshal of the Government January 17, 1836.
Mr. Money was a member of Captain Moseley Baker's San Felipe Company at San Jacinto and on February 1, 1839 was issued Donation Certificate No. 804 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. In Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 9605 it is certified that he served in the army from April 15 to July 15, 1836. For this service he was on January 11, 1840, issued Bounty Certificate No. 9401 for 320 acres of land.
Mr. Money was elected Chief Justice of Austin County April 25, 1838. He was eventually moved to Washington County, where he died in the year 1855. His will, signed February 26, 1855, is in the County Clerk's office at Brenham, Texas. His sister, Elizabeth Rabb, was appointed administratrix of his estate May 7, 1855.
Judge Money never married. He left the bulk of his estate to Elizabeth Rabb, but asked that five hundred dollars be given to his name-sake John Hamilton McNutt, son of Robert and Polly McNutt, who resided on Brushy Creek in Washington County.
