MOLINO, JOSE -- Listed on page 15 of the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836 as H. Malena Alexin, a member of Captain Hayden Arnold's company. On page 35 of the General Land Office rolls the name appears as Hosea Malina Alexin. But on page 45 of the army rolls in the Land Office the name is shown as Hosea Maloney (Mexican). The printer in copying the name for publication in a booklet in New Orleans in 1836 evidently read the word Mexican as "Alexin" and enrolled him as Hosea Malina Alexin. His true name was Jose Malino but his American name was Jose Palonio Lavigna and he seems to have used both names. At Victoria May 30, 1836, Captain Hayden Arnold issued the following Certificate: "I hereby certify that Hosea Malona has served in the Nacogdoches Volunteer Company three months by the 6th day of June next has done his duty as a private and soldier was in the Action at San Jacinto and is this day honorably discharged."

Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 3495 contains the following affidavit signed July 9, 1855, by Jesse Walling and T. C. Walling:
"This is to certify that we were well acquainted with Jose Polonio who was a private in Capt Hayden Arnold's Company in 1836 and who as a member of said Company served in the Army of Texas, and was engaged in the Battle of San Jacinto, that his proper mexican name was as above stated, but that he was familiarly and commonly known in the army as Hose Malona and was so called, that both names belonged to the same individual, that we were well acquainted with him being members of the same company and engaged in the same service."
Jose Polonio Lavigna assigned his rights to the Headright Certificate for one-third of a league of land he was entitled to receive to H. H. Edwards, who sold it to Adolphus Sterne, December 5, 1837. Headright Certificate No. 108 was issued in the name of Jose Polonio Lavigno by the Board of Land Commissioners for Nacogdoches County February 1, 1838, and was delivered to Mr. Sterne. In the Certificate it is stated that Mr. Lavigna "is a native of this Republic."
Bounty Certificate No. 2077 for 320 acres of land was issued September 20, 1855 in the name of Jose Palonia Lavina, due him for having served in the army from March 6 to June 6, 1836. The certificate had been assigned to Robert W. Nabers.
Donation Certificate No. 370 for 640 acres of land was issued June 26, 1838 by George W. Hockley to Jose Molino, due him for "having Fought at San Jacinto April 21, 1836." on September 13, 1849 Mr. Molino, then living in Shelby County, sold the Certificate to John C. Wailing for $100.00. Mr. Molino could not write but made his mark in executing the deed for transfer.
