BELKNAP, THOMAS -- Came to Texas in 1831, as is shown in the Headright Certificate issued to him in 1838 for one-third of a league land by the Matagorda County Board. He served in Captain William M. Logan's Company at San Jacinto but did not apply for the land due him for having participated in the battle. Captain Logan' s Company was organized in Liberty County. Mr. Belknap, if ever a resident of that county moved early to Matagorda County and was living there June 19, 1838, when he sold Bounty Certificate No. 2403 for 320 acres of land to Thomas and Elijah Decrow. The certificate had been issued to him in 1838 for having served in the army from March 6 to June 6, 1836. He could not write but made his mark in executing the deed of transfer.

The Probate Records of Fort Bend County show that Mr. Belknap died in that county in 1840. G. P. Foster was appointed Administrator of his estate August 13, 1840.
