Mr. Maldonado apparently did not apply for any of the land he was entitled to receive for his services in the army, but he did receive the wages due him. The following are copied from the Comptroller's Military Service Records in the archives of the Texas State Library.

(Translation) I certify that Juan Maldonado a soldier of Company B of the regiment of cavalry under my command has served the Republic of Texas from the 5th November to the 5th of May of the present year during which time he has deported himself honorably-- Said Maldonado was in the glorious battle of San Jacinto--Bexar 5th May 1837. (signed) John N. Seguin Lieutenant Col Commd.

Know all men by these presents that I have this authorised constituted and appointed Philip Howard my true and lawful attorney to call on the proper officers and have the annexed instrument audited and to take out the treasury draft due me in his own name this August the 31st, 1837.

Entitles Juan Maldonado to pay from the date of the last payment made him to 18th December 1837, as a private in Captain Flores' Company b, 1st Regiment, Cavalry. He entered the army on the 5th Novr 1836 in sd Co. Christopher Dart has filed a power of atty & an oath that the above private is not indebted to GOVT.
