LIND, JOHN F. -- Born in Georgia. Colonel Amasa Turner certified in Service Record No. 2920, dated Galveston, July 2, 1837 that Mr. Lind arrived in Texas on or about December 13, 1835, as a member of Captain W.A.O. Wadsworth's Company of Columbus, Georgia volunteers, Georgia Battalion and was left at Velasco by the commanding officer in a state of ill health, not being able to proceed to Compano with the others. Upon the arrival of Captain Turner's Company he joined it, fought at San Jacinto and remained in the army until July 2, 1837 when he was honorable discharged. He is shown as a member of Captain John Smith's Company at muster on Galveston Island, December 31, 1836. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 203 November 9, 1839 for 1290 acres of land for serving in the army from February 13, 1836 to July 2, 1837. The land was surveyed in Bexar County in 1846. The Deed Records of Bexar County, Book G, page 36, show that he sold this land to James Lynch for $650.00.

He was at New Orleans at that time. He was issued a Headright Certificate February 1, 1838 by the Harrisburg County Board for one-third of a league of land. This he sold to Nathan H. Watrous, March 18, 1838 for $500.00. While living in Goliad County, San Jacinto Donation Certificate No. 21 was issued May 15, 1838. The 640 acres of land on it was surveyed in what is now Eastland County in 1874, but it is not known whether or not Mr. Lind had disposed of the certificate prior to that time.
