LEWIS, ARCHIBALD S.-- It has not been ascertained when Mr. Lewis came to Texas. He enlisted in Captain Benjamin F. Bryant's Company March 31, 1836 for a period of thirty days. On May 26, 1836 he received Donation Certificate No. 221 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the Battle of San Jacinto. He re-enlisted in the army July 27, 1836 and served until January 6, 1838. For this service he was issued Bounty Certificate No. 1639 for 1280 acres of land. The Probate Records of Harris County show that Mr. Lewis died in Houston, December 3, 1839. He was a Second Lt. at San Jacinto.
