LEWIS, ABRAHAM -- Arrived in Texas in 1835, as is shown in Headright Certificate No. 319 issued to him, October 4, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Liberty County Board. The rights to the certificate had been assigned to Clark L. Owen. He was a member of Captain James C. Winn's Company and following his name on page 12 of the Land Office army rolls is the notation, "Left the army on January 8, 1836. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 278 for 640 acres of land November 13, 1837, for having served in the army from March 16 to September 16, 1836. The certificate had been assigned to Benjamin Hyde. He was a member of Captain William H. Patton's Company at San Jacinto and on November 13, 1837 Donation Certificate No. 541 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle was issued in his name. This also had been assigned to Mr. Hyde.
