LAMBERT, WALTER -- Born in Ireland in 1802. On November 27, 1834 he received title to a league of land in the Colony of Power and Hewetson surveyed in the present counties of Refugio and Bell. In the Headright Certificate issued to him July 26, 1838 by the Victoria County Board for one-twelfth or a league of land it is stated that he came to Texas in June, 1834. In 1835 he was a member for a time of Captain Philip Dimitt's Company. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 2945 for 320 acres of land April 18, 1838 for having served in the army from February 25 to May 27, 1836. He was a member of Captain Robert J. Calder's Company at San Jacinto and on November 27, 1838 received Donation Certificate No. 631 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 2946 for 640 acres of land for his services in the army from October 7, 1836 to April 11, 1837. On November 3, 1836 he enlisted in Lieutenant Manuel Flores' Company for a period of six months. (Margin note: Geo. M. C. Capture of Goliad Oct. 9, 1835.)

Mr. Lambert was a signer of the Goliad Declaration of Independence, December 20, 1835. (Margin note. Vol. 1 page 820 Gammel's Laws of Texas) He was sheriff of Refugio County from 1845 to 1848; Chief Justice from 1848 to 1852 and treasurer in 1856. He was a wealthy stockman. During the war between the states he served in the Confederate Army.
Mr. Lambert was married to Thomas Claire Power, daughter of James Power, Empressario of one of the Irish colonies.
Mr. Lambert died September 30, 1865 and is buried in a marked grave in the old cemetery near the site of the former town of Compano, Refugio County. Mrs. Lambert, born in Compano, Refugio County, died in the town of Refugio, May 8, 1932.
Children of Mr. and Mrs. Lambert: James W., who married Rosemary O'Brien; Philip; Allie C.; and Lalla R. Lambert who were never married.
