LAMB, GEORGE A. -- Born in Laurens District, South Carolina, October 3, 1814. Both of his parents having died, he made his home at the home of Richard and Sarah Nobles Bankhead. In 1834 he came to Texas with Mr. and Mrs. Bankhead and their five children: William Newton, James Marion, Mary Frances, Eady Elmyra and Mary Elizabeth Bankhead, settled in what is now Walker County. Mr. Bankhead died January 17, 1835 (Fulmore, in error says he died October 20, 1834) and on July 27, 1835 Mr. Lamb married his widow.

Mr. Lamb was killed in the battle of San Jacinto April 21, 1836, while Second Lieutenant of Captain William Ware's Company. Donation Certificate No. 625 for 640 acres of land was issued in his name November 26, 1838, due him for having participated in the battle and on October 4, 1838 Bounty Certificate No. 464 for 320 acres was issued, due him for his services in the army from March 1 to April 21, 1836. Lamb County, Texas was named in his honor.
Mr. and Mrs. Lamb had but one child, Susan A. Lamb, born November 1836. She was married to Richard Marion Bankhead, son of George Bankhead.
