KENT, JOSEPH -- Born in Tennessee. He was a son of Andrew Kent who fell at the Alamo, March 6, 1836. He arrived in Texas in 1827 and on June 10, 1832 received title to one-fourth of a league of land in De Witt's Colony. He received Bounty Certificate No. 1471 for 320 acres of land, January 1, 1838 for having served in the army from October 3, 1835 to February 8, 1836. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 1472 for 320 acres of land January 1, 1838 for his services from April 7 to July 24, 1836. He was a member of Captain William Kimbro's Company at San Jacinto and Donation Certificate No. 502 for 640 acres of land was issued to him August 8, 1838 for having participated in the battle. He received a Headright certificate for one-twelfth of a league of land from the Austin County Board March 2, 1838, he having previously received one-fourth of a league.

Mr. Kent died in De Witt County in 1850. Wiley Duren was appointed administrator of his estate February 25, 1850 (Book A, page 121, Probate Minutes of De Witt County.)
By act of the Legislature approved December 3, 1850, the following Children of Andrew Kent were constituted the legal heirs of Joseph Kent: David B. Kent, Bosmar Kent, Mary Ann Bias, wife of William Bias, and Louisa Billings, wife of James Billings.
