JONES, EDWARD S. -- Born in 1817. He came to Texas in January, 1836. He is shown in Service Record No. 512 as having served in the army from March 16 to April 22, 1836, as Orderly Sergeant and from April 23 to June 16, 1836 as Second Lieutenant. He was a member of Captain William S. Fisher's Company at San Jacinto and received Donation Certificate No. 173, dated September 24, 1849, for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle.

He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 4398 for 320 acres of land for serving in the army from March 16 to June 16, 1836. President Lamar appointed Mr. Jones Second Lieutenant in the First Infantry June 23, 1840, but on August 28, 1840 Acting President David G. Burnet being "induced by representation from the War Department," withdrew his nomination which was before the Senate for Confirmation. This is shown in pages 184 and 191, Secret Journals of the Senate. The following information concerning Mr. Jones is to be found in the files of the Court of Claims, General Land Office: Mr. Robert J. W. Reel in his deposition stated that he was Second Lieutenant in Captain William S. Fisher's Company at San Jacinto and Mr. Jones was Orderly Sergeant and that they fought side by side in the battle. He stated that Mr. Jones came to Texas in January, 1836, and was at that time about twenty-one years old. Jones, he stated, remained single until the year 1852 when he was married to Lucinda Trussell. Mr. Jones died at Quintana, Brazoria County in July, 1852 and in 1854 Mrs. Jones married C F. Frochtlin. There were no children by Mr. and Mrs. Jones.
Mrs. Frochtlin on August 20, 1858 applied for the one-third of a league of land due Mr. Jones. Her testimony was similar to that offered by Mr. Reel.
