JOHNSTON, THOMAS F. -- Arrived in Texas in January, 1836, as is shown in Headright Certificate No. 428 issued to him August 3, 1838, for one-third of a league of land by the Jasper County Board. Thomas F. Johnston was issued Bounty Certificate No. 9131 for 320 acres of land May 14, 1837, for having served in the army for a period of three months. This he sold to Stephen Richardson. The dates of his enlistment and discharge are not shown in the certificate. He was a member of Captain James Gillaspie's Company at San Jacinto and Donation Certificate No. 908 for 640 acres of land was issued in the name of Thomas F. Johnston, June 7, 1839 due him for having participated in the battle. This certificate was lost and a duplicate was issued January 3, 1873, to Thomas F. Johnston while he was living in Limestone County.

The land obtained on Mr. Thomas F. Johnston's Headright Certificate was surveyed on the headwaters of Gary's Creek, fourteen miles, south and thirty-five miles west of the present town of Meridian, and Mr. Johnston in 1876 while living at Meridian had it re-surveyed. He died in Navarro County in 1882. Charles H. Allyn, administrator of his estate, sold his land in Bosque County, October 20, 1882.
