HUGHES, THOMAS M. -- Came to Texas in 1832, as is shown in the Headright Certificate issued to him February 2, 1838, for a league and labor of land by the Shelby County Board of Land Commissioners. He was a member of Captain William Kimbro's San Augustine Company at San Jacinto and on December 17, 1838, he was issued Donation Certificate No. 707 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. This was lost and a duplicate, No. 110, was issued June 26, 1848. Bounty certificate No. 48 was issued in his name May 12, 1846, for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 15, to June 15, 1836. The rights to the certificate had been assigned May 18, 1837, to John D. Andrews.

In the Marriage Records of Nacogdoches County it is shown that Mr. Hughes was married in that county October 28, 1837, to Louisa Sydeck. He died before March 18, 1859, when his heirs sold his Donation Certificate to Thomas Alley.
