HOPE, PROSPER -- In applying for land in Austin's Colonies Mr. Hope stated that he was born in Ohio in 1799, had emigrated to Louisiana, and had arrived in Texas in 1825. On December 10, 1828, he received title to land situated on New Year's Creek. He was a member of Captain William W. Hill's Company at San Jacinto and on April 6, 1853, he was issued Donation Certificate No. 488 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 1578 for 320 acres of land January 9, 1837, by George W. Poe, Paymaster, for having served in the army from March 25, to June 25, 1836. On February 20, 1838, he received a Headright Certificate for three-fourths of a league and one labor of land from the Washington County Board.

Mr. Hope was married to Julia Ann Roberts in Washington County August 19, 1837. He died in Burleson County in 1854 (?).
