HOMAN, HARVEY -- Born in Kentucky in 1806. He arrived at Velasco January 28, 1836, on the schooner Pennsylvania (See the sketch of Captain Amasa Turner in this volume). Recruited at New Orleans. He was a member of Captain Richard Roman's company at San Jacinto. Some time after the battle Captain Roman returned and Captain Nicholas M. Dawson took command of his company. On an original muster roll of Captain Dawson's company, found in the Archives of the Texas State Library, the following information concerning Mr. Homan is given: He was born in Kentucky in 1806; was 5 feet, 10 inches high; of dark complexion, with dark eyes and dark hair. By trade he was a carpenter. He was recruited by Richard Roman at Velasco and enlisted January 29th for the duration of the war. He had been furnished with one vest, one jacket, two pairs of pants, two sheets, two pairs of shoes and two pairs of stockings at a total value of $14.48. In addition to this he had been paid $80.00.

On a muster roll of Captain George M. Casey's company in the State Library it is shown that Mr. Homan served in Captain Casey's company from January 1, 1837. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 2135 for 1280 acres of land December 17 1837, for serving in the army from January 18 to December 18, 1837. This he sold to Robert M. Forbes March 9, 1838, for $200.00. His San Jacinto Donation Certificate No. 66 was issued to his estate March 19, 1847. He received a Headright Certificate for one-third of a league of land from the Brazoria County Board February 1, 1838.
The Probate Records of Harris County, Book G, page 338, show that Mr. Homan died in Houston in July, 1846. John Herman was appointed administrator of his estate July 10, 1846.
